This is a common chronic frequently relapsing inflammatory skin condition that results from interplay of several factors including genetic makeup of an individual, environmental exposures, skin barrier dysfunctions and maladaptive immune system. It is characterised by ill-defined erythematous, itchy patches with different patterns in different age groups. Infants usually present with head, cheek, neck and extensor limb surface involvement. Children present with a shift toward flexural folds around wrist, ankle, front surface of elbows and back side of knees. Severity can range from mild to severe involving widespread areas of skin and having a significant impact on quality of life.
In the clinic we will confirm the diagnosis, assess severity of skin involvement , identify possible triggers and provide a comprehensive management plan that will put your child at ease.
